Sweet, juicy cherries are one of the best parts of summer, and this easy honey cherry compote is a simple way to make the most of them. Simmered until soft and glossy with BeeMaid Honey, it creates a rich, fruity topping that’s ready in minutes and adds a burst of fresh cherry flavour to just about anything. Spoon it over creamy yogurt parfaits, pancakes, waffles, cheesecake, vanilla ice cream, or your favourite baked treats for an effortless upgrade. BeeMaid Honey enhances the cherries’ natural sweetness while adding a smooth depth of flavour, making this versatile compote one you’ll want to keep in the fridge all season long.
Ingredients
Recipe
2 Cups
Cherries (fresh or frozen with pits removed)
3-4 Tbsp
BeeMaid Honey
1 1/2 Tbsp
Lemon Juice
Optional: 2 oz
Amaretto
Directions
- Remove the pits and stems from your cherries.
- Add the cherries to a small saucepan on medium heat along with the BeeMaid Honey and lemon juice. Stir ingredients together until the honey has fully dissolved.
- Allow the cherry mixture to come to a simmer. Once a simmer is reached, reduce the heat to medium low and continue to cook the compote for 10-15 minutes. Continue to stir intermittently throughout the process.
- Once the cherries have softened and a thick sauce is formed, remove the saucepan from the heat and allow to cool for 20 minutes. To speed up the process, transfer to a jar or bowl and refrigerate. If adding amaretto for an alcoholic version of this recipe, add to the sauce pan cherry mixture after it has been removed from the heat and mix well with a spoon.
- Spoon the cherry compote over your favourite desserts for a rich fruity topping! Note: this honey cherry compote can be stored for up to 10 days in a sealed, refrigerated container.
