Crystallization is a natural process that happens over time.  Honey, being a natural product, can crystallize due to various factors such as temperature, air exposure, age, and the floral source from which it originates. In fact, it’s a testament to the quality and purity of our honey, as it remains completely unaltered-nothing is added or removed. During crystallization, some of the molecules in honey separate from the liquid and form crystals that multiply rapidly, causing the honey to change into a solid form. Crystallization does not indicate that your honey has spoiled.

Yes, it is still safe to use! – While honey doesn’t expire, it may change colour or crystallize over time (a result of honey’s unique floral sources and moisture composition). This is a normal, natural process that does not affect its quality – only its appearance.

Proper storage can help your BeeMaid Honey stay fresh and flavourful. Here are a few tips for storing your honey:

  1. Ensure your honey container is tightly sealed and the lid is closed after each use. Exposure to air can speed up crystallization.
  2. Avoid extreme temperatures. Honey is best kept in dark, room-temperature environments like a pantry. Storing honey in places that are too hot or too cold can affect its texture and quality.
  3. Avoid Refrigerating Liquid Honey – While creamed honey can be stored in the fridge (if you like a thicker consistency), liquid honey should not be refrigerated, as it will crystallize faster and can impact its texture.

Unfortunately, due to food safety regulations, we are unable to provide tours to the public. If you are interested in learning more about honey production or the world of beekeeping in general, we encourage you to follow us on social media where we often share behind-the-scenes looks at our BeeMaid Honey packing facilities and beekeeping operations.

We are always looking for new members to join our hive! If you are interested in becoming part of our Bee Maid Honey cooperative, please reach out to our Member Services team by filling out the form on our Contact Page.

Important Note: To be eligible for membership, prospective beekeepers must produce a minimum of 5000 lbs. of honey per year, reside in Western Canada, and provide legal proof of Canadian citizenship (or permanent residency).

Beekeepers play a crucial role in Canadian agriculture, both economically and ecologically.

Honey production itself is a significant industry, contributing millions to the economy each year through the sale of honey and other bee-related products. Beyond honey, beekeepers support vital crop pollination services that many Canadian farmers rely on.

Honeybees help increase yields for important crops such as canola, blueberries, apples, and cherries, ensuring both food security and economic stability for the agricultural sector. Beyond their direct economic contributions, honeybees foster a stable ecosystem by supporting biodiversity and plant reproduction.

Co-ops provide numerous benefits to their members, including greater bargaining power and improved market access. As a co-operative, Bee Maid Honey handles the processing, packaging, and marketing of our beekeepers’ honey. Additionally, because co-operatives are owned and governed by members, local producers retain control and equity to ensure that the value created remains within their communities.

By working together through the co-operative model, Bee Maid Honey members secure fair prices for their honey and increase efficiency in production and distribution. This allows them to focus on what they do best — caring for their bees and producing pure, high-quality Canadian honey.

A co-operative (or co-op) is a member-owned and democratically controlled business. In the agricultural sector, a co-operative brings together local farmers and producers who supply, distribute, and collectively market their products and services.

As a proudly beekeeper-owned co-operative, supporting local producers is at the heart of what we do. BeeMaid Honey is not just sourced from Canadian beekeepers—it is owned by them! Every drop of BeeMaid Honey comes exclusively from the hives of our dedicated beekeeper members in Western Canada, ensuring the highest quality and a direct connection from their hives to your table.

Sadly, due to international food shipping regulations, we are unable to ship individual BeeMaid Honey products to customers living outside of Canada. If you are interested in purchasing large bulk quantities of honey for international food service and/or business needs, please contact a BeeMaid Honey sales representative via our Food Service Page.
