Savoury Cheddar Chive Waffles—aka “chaffles”—are your sign to finally retire the idea that waffles only belong on the sweet side of the menu. If you’ve only ever reached for syrup and berries, it’s time to flip the script. These waffles are packed with sharp cheddar and fresh chives, baked (or cooked) until crisp on the outside with a soft, savoury centre that’s seriously addictive on its own. But the real magic happens on top: smoky bacon is candied with BeeMaid Honey and cracked black pepper, creating that perfect sweet-savoury crunch that hits every note. To finish, a drizzle of hot honey brings just the right amount of heat to balance the richness of the cheese and bacon, tying everything together in one bold, flavour-packed bite. It’s crispy, cheesy, spicy, sweet, and exactly why savoury waffles deserve a permanent spot in your breakfast rotation.

Ingredients

Chive and Cheddar Waffles
6
Large Eggs
2 Tbsp
Half and Half Cream
1 1/3 Cup
Cheddar Cheese (shredded)
1 Tbsp
Chives (chopped)
1/4 Tsp
Salt and Pepper
1 Tsp
Dried Thyme
1 Tsp
Onion Powder
Honey Black Pepper Candied Bacon
8 Slices
Bacon
3-4 Tbsp
BeeMaid Honey
1 Tbsp
Pepper
Optional:
Red Chili Flakes

Directions

1. On a foil-lined sheet pan, lay bacon into a single layer. Season with fresh cracked black pepper and flip. Drizzle the other side with honey and season with more fresh pepper.  Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cook bacon until slightly cripsy (approx. 20-30 minutes).
2. While the candied bacon cooks, whisk the eggs and cream together in a large mixing bowl. Add in the cheddar cheese and stir slightly until evenly dispersed throughout the egg mixture. Add in the salt, pepper, thyme, onion powder and fresh chives and stir once more until fully combined.
3. Heat your waffle iron and lightly spray with non-stick cooking spray. Pour the egg and cheese mixture into the iron, allowing it to fully cover the surface of the iron but not overflow. Close the iron and allow to cook for approximately 2-3 minutes (depending on the heat). The waffle should look crisp and golden along the edges.  Repeat this process until you have used up the batter (Note: recipe makes approx. 6 waffles).
4. Serve the waffles warm and top with the candied bacon. Garnish with a drizzle of hot honey and additional chives.
