Bee Maid Honey Limited First Honey Packer in Canada to Earn SQF Certification

Western Canada’s largest honey packer is first to earn rigorous food safety certification.

Winnipeg, MB May 24, 2011 - Bee Maid Honey Limited is pleased to announce that it is the first honey packer in Canada to be SQF (Safe Quality Food) approved. Both the Winnipeg and Spruce Grove plants were recently notified that their SQF audits were successful.

Today’s consumers are more educated about the food they provide their families and want to know that the food they are consuming is safe. Owned and controlled by the Food Marketing Institute, the rigorous SQF certification is a globally recognized food safety and quality certification program and meets GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative) requirements. The certification provides independent and external validation that a product process meets specific standards and enables a supplier to assure that a food has been produced, prepared and handled according to the highest possible standards.

“We are incredibly proud to be the first SQF certified honey packer in Canada,” said Guy Chartier, CEO. “Our team worked very hard to make this happen. Receiving SQF certification showcases our dedication to producing the safest and highest quality product possible, while maintaining traceability from the hive to the customer.”

Designed as a food safety program, SQF also covers product quality, a feature unique to this certification. Assuring consistent quality and meeting buyer specifications are important aspects of the buyer-supplier relationship.

The SQF audit for certification included a review of a wide array of records, practices and procedures for both facilities, including such areas as product identification and traceability, staff training, customer complaint records, and product sampling, inspection and analysis.
